Popayan, Cauca

Central America is the central geographic region of the Americas. It is variably defined either as being a region of the Americas in its own right or as the southern portion of North America. Physiographically, Central America is a tropical isthmus that connects North and South America. It includes 7 countries and many small offshore islands. Overall, the land is fertile and rugged, and dominated through its heart by a string of volcanic mountain ranges with a few active volcanos.

Popayan is the capital of the Colombian department of Cauca, with a population of about 215,000 people. It is known as the white city because of its stunning colonial houses. The city is well-known for its colonial architecture and its contributions to Colombian cultural and political life. As a result Popayan is one of the most conventional Colombian towns and very rich in Colonial architecture. There are numerous colonial bridges, museums and churches in the town. The nearest huge city is Cali, in the neighbouring department of Valle del Cauca, to the north.

Central America is a popular travel destination for visitors and globe trotters from all over the world who appreciate its beautiful landscapes, rich culture, various local cuisine, hospitality and safety.
