Asuncion

Central America is the central geographic region of the Americas. It is variably defined either as being a region of the Americas in its own right or as the southern portion of North America. Physiographically, Central America is a tropical isthmus that connects North and South America. It includes 7 countries and many small offshore islands. Overall, the land is fertile and rugged, and dominated through its heart by a string of volcanic mountain ranges with a few active volcanos.

Asuncion is the capital of Paraguay. It is the seat of government, principal port and chief industrial and cultural centre of the country. In 2002, the population of the city was   1,639,000. Asuncion is one of the oldest cities in South America, being known as Mother of Cities. Roughly 30 percent of Paraguay's 6 million people live within Greater Asuncion. The city sits on the left bank of the Paraguay River, which separates the city in the north-west from the Occidental Region of Paraguay and Argentina in the south part of the city. The rest of the city is surrounded by the Central Department.

The climate of Asuncion can be described as warm and humid for the most part of the year. The city is home to the Godoy Museum and the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, the Church of La Encarnacion and the Cathedral, and the Panteon Nacional de los Heroes, a smaller version of Les Invalides in Paris, where many of the nation's heroes are entombed. Asuncion also has luxurious malls that contain shops of well known brands. The biggest shopping malls are Shopping del Sol, which includes a Macys style department store, Unicentro, Mariscal Lopez Shopping, Shopping Villa Morra in the central part of the city and the downtown located Mall Excelsior.

Central America is a popular travel destination for visitors and globe trotters from all over the world who appreciate its beautiful landscapes, rich culture, various local cuisine, hospitality and safety.
