Maicao, Guajira

Central America is the central geographic region of the Americas. It is variably defined either as being a region of the Americas in its own right or as the southern portion of North America. Physiographically, Central America is a tropical isthmus that connects North and South America. It includes 7 countries and many small offshore islands. Overall, the land is fertile and rugged, and dominated through its heart by a string of volcanic mountain ranges with a few active volcanos.

Maicao is a city in the Guajira department, Colombia. It is located 76 kilometers from Riohacha, the capital of the department. In wayu language mai-ka-u its name means corn kernel. The city has population 115.000 inhabitants. La Guajira is a department of Colombia. It occupies most of its namesake peninsula, in the north-east region of the country, facing the Caribbean Sea and Venezuela. Its capital is Riohacha.

Colombia, or formally, the Republic of Colombia, is the northwesternmost country of South America. Colombia is bordered to the east by Venezuela and Brazil, to the south by Ecuador and Peru, to the North by the Atlantic Ocean, through the Caribbean Sea, and to the west by Panama and the Pacific Ocean.
