Central America is the central geographic region of the Americas. It is variably defined either as being a region of the Americas in its own right or as the southern portion of North America. Physiographically, Central America is a tropical isthmus that connects North and South America. It includes 7 countries and many small offshore islands. Overall, the land is fertile and rugged, and dominated through its heart by a string of volcanic mountain ranges with a few active volcanos.
 
Porto Alegre is one of the biggest cities in Brazil, is the capital city of Rio Grande do Sul. Porto Alegre is the most significant city of Southern Brazil, being its cultural, political and economical center. Porto Alegre has the best standard of living of all Brazilian capitals and it was the only Brazilian city listed on Jones Lang LaSalle's World Winning Cities. In 2005, the population of the city was 1,440,939 and an area of 496.8 square kilometers. Porto Alegre has a subtropical climate, with regular rainfall throughout the year. Porto Alegre is the most significant industrial center in southern Brazil and a key city for Mercosul.
