Central America is the central geographic region of the Americas. It is variably defined either as being a region of the Americas in its own right or as the southern portion of North America. Vina del Mar is also known locally as La Ciudad Jardin is a thriving coastal city in central Chile, in the Valparaiso Region. The population stands at 318,489 in 2004, making it Chile's fourth largest city. It is best known as a tourist and beach destination include with multiple beaches including Renaca, Las Salinas, Miramar and Casino. Vina del Mar is located some 110 kilometers north-west from Santiago de Chile and borders with the port of Valparaiso to the south.
